Toilet Seat Painting Contest in Full Swing; Note Change in Rules

The Dushore Founder’s Day Toilet Seat Painting Contest is back and ready for another year of artistic expression in 2018. This unique art contest offers a fun opportunity to get creative; it also benefits the community, as all proceeds from the toilet seat auction go to the Sullivan County Library in Dushore.

RULES & REGULATIONS
Competition is open to all amateur, student or professional artists age 16 and up. Popular vote will decide the winners on the day of the Outhouse Races. Trophies and monetary prizes will be awarded during Founder’s Day activities.

This year will feature two divisions: Gold and Silver. The Gold division will include all past winners and all entries deemed to be at the “accomplished” level. Students and amateur painters will enter the Silver division.

First place winners in both categories will receive $25.00, second place $15.00 and third place $10.00, totaling six winners for 2018.

Only the official white wooden seat provided may be entered. Pick up the entry form and seat at the Jolly Trolley beginning April 1. The fee must be paid at time of pickup.

Entrants can submit as many seats as they like ($10 fee applies for each submission). Contestants who cannot pick up toilet seats in person may pay shipping and handling with their entry fee to have official seats delivered. Only entries painted on official seats will be accepted; no substitute seats allowed.

New rules for 2018: Seat artwork is to be created with some type of paint, textured paints, glitter, gems, sequins, etc. Artwork should be sealed with a waterproof layer as it will be displayed outside on the day of the activities, rain or shine.

All seats will be pre–judged for competition criteria.

Winners will be chosen by popular vote. Don’t forget to stop by C&N Bank on Main Street to cast votes for your favorites!

ART RESTRICTIONS
No logos, brand names or any copyrighted images are allowed. No images of nudity or suggestive nature. Artwork degrading the human condition or depicting illegal acts or political references will also not be displayed or judged. This is a day of family and fun!

Seats not winning a prize will be auctioned off to help cover expenses of Dushore Founder’s Day. The auction will be at 4 p.m. before the Outhouse Races.

Seats do not have to depict outhouses or historical scenes. Seats also do not have to have lettering on them. If you do want lettering on the seat and cannot paint lettering freehand, stenciling or tracing is acceptable as long as lettering is done with ink or paint. No stickers, rub–on stencils or cutouts allowed.

Registration opened April 1 and the deadline to enter is July 31, 2018. Please return the seat with the original package so when it is sold at auction it will have its box. Any late arrivals will not be judged. Seats will be displayed at the Jolly Trolley until voting time.
